OBITUARY SKETCH.Miss Elizabeth Crease was born in London, England, Dec. 22, 1826. When 23 years old she was wooed and won by John Sivil, a young man two years her junior, and they were married in Dec. 1849.
In 1852 they came to America landing at New York and moving west the same year to Pittsburg, Penn. In 1855 they came to Big Mound, Lee county, Iowa, where she has since resided.
The husband was a public spirited, enterprising citizen and found a loyal helpmate in his wife. The wife outlived the husband one year and 23 days, passing away Tuesday away Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 P. M.
The deceased united with the Christian church in 1853 and during the pastorate of Rev. Robinson united with the M. E. church at Big Mound, of which church she remained a faithful and consistent member until her death.
The deceased is mourned by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark of Big Mound and Mrs. Langwith of Sharon; one brother-in-law, Wm. Sivil of Bonaparte; two nieces, Mrs. Floyd Macklin of Bonaparte and Miss Emma Sivil of Keokuk; one nephew, Wm. H. Sivil of Keokuk; three grandchildren, John E., Harold S., and William C. Langwith of Sharon, besides a large circle of friends and neighbors.
Rev. Tennant conducted the funeral services Friday at the M. E. church at Big Mound and the remains were interred in the Sharon cemetery.
Special music was furnished by the M. E. choir. Rev. Tennant chose for his text words of David in Psalm 35 the last clause of the 14th verse, and preached a sermon to the living, drawing lessons from the earnest Christian life of the deceased.
