W. A. Wilcoxen.

One of Keokuk’s well known and highly respected citizen[s], W. A. Wilcoxen died Tuesday, March 21, at 7:20 o’clock of tuberculosis, after an illness of six months, during the last nine weeks he being almost wholly confined to his bed.

He had been a resident of this city for six years coming here from Bonaparte, Iowa. The family home was No. 815 Exchange street. He was up to the time of his illness engaged in [the] photograph business and conducted a studio at No. 301 Main street. His ill health compelled him to dispose of it in January.

Mr. Wilcoxen was born in Muncie, Ind. His parents died when he was quite young and he was reared by Mrs. Ruth Williamson on a farm near Bonaparte. He was married in November, 1853 to Miss Mary Madden, of Mount Sterling and together they moved to Bonaparte, where he was engaged in the photograph business until their removal to this city.

During his residence in this city, he made many friends, by his always pleasing manner, and courteous business ways, and his death will be deplored by many citizens. The secret societies of the city with which he affiliated are the Modern Woodman of America, the Knights of Pythias and the Mutual Protective League. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in Bonaparte.

The surviving relatives besides his wife, and one daughter, Edith, who resided at home and three sisters, Mrs. Adeline F. Hoffman of Reading, Mich., Mrs. Sadie Hill of Chicago and Mrs. Mattie Stewart of Springport, Ind. His sisters will be unable to attend the funeral. – Gate City

Funeral services were held at Keokuk and the remains were interred in the Center Chapel cemetery in Van Buren county.
