Pearl Newcomb

NEWCOMB, VICKERS, ANDERSON, DEWEY, MCCLINTOCK

Mrs. Pearl Vickers Anderson Newcomb, 86, died at 4:10 P.M. Thursday, June 22, 1972 in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since June 18. She was a retired school teacher.

She was born Oct. 20, 1885 in Virginia and was raised by Alex and Eliza Anderson. She married Rollo E. Newcomb in 1911. He died in 1948.

Mrs. Newcomb attended Iowa Southern Normal School at Bloomfield, Iowa Wesleyan College and Central College in Pella, where she received a degree in 1911. She taught in Mt. Sterling, Bloomfield and eighth grade at Keosauqua from 1948 until 1961.

She organized the Keosauqua UNICEF drive about 10 years ago and had served as its honorary chairman since that time. She was an active member of Chapter I., PEO Sisterhood, the Keosauqua Congregational Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Don of Kansas City, Mo., Robert of Albany, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Dewey of Fellow Springs, Ohio and Mrs. Betty McClintock of San Jose, Calif., and by several grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Martha Lee Lydolph preceded her in death.
A memorial fund has been established for Mrs. Newcomb at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

Last rites were held Saturday, June 24 in the Keosauqua Congregational Church, with the Rev. Millard Marshall in charge. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery. Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua handled arrangements.
