Thomas Emerson Russell, 84, of Bonaparte died Friday, July 28, 1978 at 1:25 p.m., in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. He had been ill two years.

Born April 14, 1894 at Keokuk, he was the son of Thomas and Lydia Martin Russell.

He was married to Lea Mae Chambers on August 8, 1917 at Fort Madison.

A resident of Bonaparte 52 years, he was a baker.

He was a member of the Bonaparte Presbyterian church, past commander of the American Legion Post 563, past master of Bonaparte lodge 73, High Priesthood, Davenport Consistory, Royal and Selected Masons of Iowa, and Grand Cross of Color International Order of Rainbow.

He is survived by his wife.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

The funeral service was held Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m., in the Bonaparte Presbyterian church with the Rev. Kenneth Harden, officiating. Burial was in the Bonaparte cemetery. Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
