Clark S. Ross, affectionately known as Dad, passed away at 2:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17 at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines.
He was born May 7, 1873 in Clark County, Missouri, the son of Samuel and Margaret Cock Ross. On October 3, 1956 he went to his daughter's home in Des Moines and has been in and out of the hospital ever since.
He was married to Maude L. Sawyers in September 1896. She preceded him in death in 1945.
In the year of 1896 he bought an interest in the livery business of his brother Charles, in 1899 his brother-in-law Harry Sawyers became a partner also. This business was located on the lot now owned by D. V. Ware, between Thompson's Store and the Tastee Freeze. In 1920 he opened a restaurant which he operated until 1936. This is now the Van Patten restaurant.
For the past five years he lived at the Smith Hotel and worked at the Azbell furniture store. He is survived by a son, Francis Ross, Des Moines and a daughter Gwen Ross, Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hillys Ross, who passed away in 1954. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bert Story, Nauvoo, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Farmington Monday, August 19, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jerald Beltz and Rev. Gordon Shipp officiating. Burial was in Farmington Cemetery.
