Mrs. Janetta Hanback died on Saturday, Feb. 21, 1931 at her home in Bonaparte after having been in declining health for several months. She was a pioneer resident of Van Buren county, having located on Vernon Prairie in 1845. Her husband, Thomas Hanback, deceased, was for several years engaged in the manufacture of pottery at Bonaparte, and since his death in 1912 Mrs. Hanback and daughter, Mary, have continued to make their home in the residence which has been theirs for so many years.

Janetta Ann Harryman, daughter of Francis Asbury and Charlotte Oney Harryman, was born June 17, 1843 in Mooresville, Ind., and passed to her reward Feb. 21, 1931 at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 4 days. She was the last survivor of a family of seven children, three brothers and four sisters.

In 1845 she moved with her parents to Iowa and settled on Vernon Prairie near Bonaparte where she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 25, 1858 she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Hanback. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1912. She was the mother of four daughters, two of whom are living; Miss Mary Hanback of Bonaparte and Mrs. George B. Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas; also one grandson, George A. Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla. Mrs. Hanback has lived in Bonaparte since 1866.

She was a consistent and faithful member of the Presbyterian church, being a member for almost fifty years; also a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society and a faithful worker in that organization until the last few years when ill health and her advanced age prevented her further participation.

Mrs. Hanback was a good, kind and loving mother, devoted to her family, an active and consecrated Christian. She was loved by all who knew her, especially her neighbors.

For the past year she has been a patient sufferer and died as she had lived in the hope of a blessed eternity.

Funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon with Rev. D. D. Flanagan officiating, music by a male quartet, and interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
