Laura Evelyn Gardner, second child of Thomas and Bessie Gardner, was born at Bonaparte, Iowa, July 17, 1914 and died at the children's hospital in Iowa City at 2:30 in the afternoon of May 2, 1922, aged seven years, ten months and five days.

During her short life she had shown a most loving disposition. Her cheerfulness and patience were so marked that at the hospital the nurses called her “smiles”.

She suffered for some time from nephritis and was in the hospital about six weeks, but throughout her illness she showed remarkable patience for one so young.

Besides her parents, she leaves one brother, Delbert, two sisters, Clarice and Mary Katherine; all of her grandparents, one great-grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Loring of Des Moines; and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Coppue officiating, with interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
