Shepherd - At his residence in Washington township, Van Buren County, Io., March 31, 1889, Dr. N. Shepherd, aged 82.

Dr. Shepard was born in Ohio and came to this county 50 years ago the third of this month. He was one of Van Buren County as early settlers -- one of the Progressive men who developed this section of Iowa. One by one the old settlers are going and it will be but a short time hints when the pioneers of Van Buren County will have crossed the Mystic river.

The remains were buried in the Bentonsport Cemetery with Masonic honors. Rev. Pool preached the funeral sermon.
