Died- At her home about three miles north of Bonaparte, Io., January 17th, 1887, Mrs. Betsey Ann wife of Luther C. Cheney of disease of the heart.

Deceased had been ailing for some months past, yet was able to attend to household cares. On Monday morning she said before rising that she did not feel very well, nevertheless got up. Mr. Cheney went to his morning work and upon returning found her quite dead, breathing but a few times after he found her.

Betsey Ann Smith was born in the town of Sanbornton, New Hamshire, October 7th, 1824. She was married Dec. 18, 1844 to Luther C. Cheney of Campton, New Hamshire. They removed to VanBuren County, Iowa, in the year 1860 where they have lived to the time of her death, Jan. 17th making her age 62 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Her family consisted of four sons, and one daughter, Charles W., Geo. L,, Daniel W., Alice E., and Edwin L.. All are living except Charles W. who died in infancy.

She professed no particular religious faith, but was kind hearted liberal and temperate in all things.

Brief funeral services were conducted at the house by Eld. C. L. Custer, pastor of the Bonaparte Baptist church. The remains were expressed to New Hamshire for interment.

D.W. Cheney and wife of Ill., and Mrs Alice Lee and Dixon Smith of Neb. were present at the funeral.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their great sorrow.
