Velma Sturdivant, 92, of Donnellson, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 1998 at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born April 9, 1906, in Stockport, she was the daughter of Kelly and Stella Jane Russell Mellen. On March 15, 1937 she married Robert J. Sturdivant in Kahoka, Missouri. He died June 16, 1975.

Mrs. Sturdivant lived on the same farm for 60 years. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson and the women's fellowship of the church.

Survivors include one son, Rodney Sturdivant of Donnellson; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and one brother, Elmer Mellen of Gray Summit, Missouri.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, one brother and one sister.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, June 17 at Hofbauer Funeral Home, Donnellson, with Jim Eads officiating. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Bonaparte Cemetery.
