Carl R. Mellen, 78, of Bonaparte, died at 4:05 a.m., Friday, July 31, 1981 at the Kirksville Missouri Osteopathic Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1903 at Stockport, to Kelley and Stella Russell Mellen. He married Margaret Murphy on Oct. 14, 1926 at Sigourney.
Mr. Mellen spent most of his life on the same farm northeast of Bonaparte. He was a member of Big Mound Methodist Church and was a past patron of Eastern Star and past master of the Bonaparte Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Edith) Gonterman, Bonaparte; one brother, Elmer, Gray's Summit, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Velma Sturdivant, Donnellson; two grandsons, two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Bonaparte Baptist Church with pastor Bob Dodds officiating. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington.
