Death of Frank Smith
Our people were pained to learn of the death of Frank Smith last Thursday and as the tidings were the first intimation we had had that he was even ailing the intelligence was doubly sad to his friends. Mr. Smith was here for several days a couple of weeks ago and was feeling well and there was much vim in his hearty handshake.
While here he purchased a wagon, team and harness and drove them to Belfast and it was on the trip the fatal illness was contracted as he never again left the house until borne out on the hands of loving friends. The nature of the illness was pleurisy probably on augmented by grip and exposure.
He was buried on Saturday, with services at the M. E. church at Croton, Rev. Taylor officiating, and the remains were laid to rest beside those of his daughter.
Deceased was married to Mrs. Louisa Dickinson, Nov. 5, 1902 and was 79 years of age. He was born in York state, leaving their for Michigan when yet a boy and then west to which he and his widowed mother emigrated was but a wilderness. In '69 he came to Muscatine and to Bonaparte in March, 73. He engaged in business here as a butcher. After an absence of 20 years he returned from Oakland and has remained here cents
His death is certainly mourned by one in Bonaparte especially, Dan Cresap, who has for many years been a confidante and friend. Dan learned the butcher business with Mr. Smith in '73 and since that time has stood steadfastly by the old man, defending him when need be and advising him and his business dealings in the latter years of his life, when a trustworthy friend is needed. Dan was with him a year in Oakland. We regret the ending of this life.
