William Ebenezer Corwin was born April 18, 1844 in Farmington, Ia., and died in Marshalltown, Ia., Nov. 6, 1905. Most of his life was spent in Bonaparte and it was here that he was married on Feb. 12, 1871 to Fannie C. West of Peaksville, Mo. Six children were born, three dying in infancy. Chas. E. Corwin of Des Moines, William E. of Davenport and Mrs. Grace Connor of Omaha, Neb., survive. His wife died in 1878 and at 10 o'clock Monday night, Nov. 6, the husband followed.
Deceased served three years in the civil war, being a member of Co B, 30th Iowa Inft. and participated in 27 battles. While in the army he received a sunstoke which ever after affected his health and was a sufferer for years, but since March had failed very fast.
Last September he went to the soldiers home at Marshalltown and was attended by his sons and M. A. Neiswanger of Bonaparte. He was buried with full military honors, a tribute to one who served his country long and well.
Of the number of men who made up the gallant regiment in which Comrade Corwin served with distinction, there now remains but one, and we are unable to give the name of the soldier, but may gain it before we go to press. Mr. Corwin was a good man, and possessed of a large number of friends, who are sad that the end of the life came when he was far from their midst, and from the ministering kindness of his loved ones.
