THE SAD OBSEQUIES

Ellen, daughter of Charles and Valaria Keith, was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, July 15, 1848, and grew to womanhood in the place of her nativity.

She was married to Jno. W. Ziegenfus in December, 1866, and to this union three children were born, one daughter and two sons, the former dying in infancy. During their married life they resided for some time in Neenah, Wis., and later in North Bend, Neb. The husband died in Lisbon, Iowa, in 1876.

She married Samuel H. Sharp at Eldon, Iowa, on August 10, 1885. To this union two children were born, one son and one daughter.

She leaves to mourn for her, the husband, three sons, John W. Ziegenfus of St. Louis, Harry D. Ziegenfus, Samuel Edward Sharp and one daughter, Miss Janie, who resides at the home in this city; one step son, James H. Sharp of Chicago; one brother, Wm. Keith, who resides in the west; and two half brothers, Robt. N. Cresap and Daniel H. Cresap who are residents of Bonaparte.

She died at the home in this city on December 29, 1904, having lived 56 years, 5 months and 14 days.

The sorrow which attended the death of this good woman was universal in our circle. The many years which she had passed were sufficient in which to demonstrate her worth as a neighbor and friend, and it is those who knew her best, that are mourning most sincerely today.

The funeral services were held at the late home on Sunday, Jan. 1, 1905, with Rev. Walter Barber in charge, who spoke kindly to the bereaved relatives and friends and offered consolation.

The concourse of friends who followed the remains to the last resting place was large and gave evidence of her great popularity.

The remains were interred in the family lot in the old cemetery.

The floral offerings were many and very beautiful, tributes of friends and from the family. One very beautiful floral piece was the gift of the post office employes [sic] to Jno. Ziegenfus, in sympathy, and it was their wish that this be laid on the coffin, which was done. Other offerings worthy of note were noticed among the tokens.
