Hobart Oklahoma News-Republican--

Silas Anderson, the subject of this sketch, was born in Greenbrier County West Virginia, May 6, 1849, and died in Hobart, Oklahoma, February 7, 1906, aged 55 years, 9 months and 1 day.

At an early age he moved with his parents to Warren, Lee County, Iowa. Here he grew to manhood, and it was here that he united with the Baptist church in whose teaching he always believed.

On February 22, 1847 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth A. Haney, of Bonaparte, Iowa. To this happy union were born four children--John H. Anderson, of Snyder, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lulu B. Hoover, of Ronda Texas; Grover and Daisy, who lived with their parents in Hobart. Thus does the first deaths occur in this happy family.

Mr. Anderson was the cheer and comfort of a happy home. Never was an unkind word spoken and his many acts of kindness extended far beyond the family hearth. His happy spirit seemed to make the world brighter, and his many friends attest how well he was beloved.

Mr. Anderson was one of the earliest pioneers of "Old Oklahoma." He and his brother were in the race of 1889. Because of his splendid official ability he was chosen the first city marshal of Guthrie. He risigned [sic] this position and returned to Iowa, but having once been in Oklahoma he was anxious to again try his fortune, and was successful in drawing a splendid claim in the last opening.

While at El Reno he was attacked by Bright's disease and he never recovered from its effects, his health gradually failing until the end.

Deceased was for more than twenty-seven years a competent, efficient and fearless officer. His duties caused extensive travel, and he was familiar with almost every place of note in every state.

Thus closes an eventful life, a life in which God reemed ? to have combined kindness, a happy spirit, a loan for his fellow man and a genial disposition loved by all.
