George V. Helwig 1823-1905

George V. Helwig, residing about 4 miles northwest of Farmington, died on Sunday, June 11, 1905. Funeral was held at the residence on Tuesday, June 13th, Rev. G. W. Barber of Unionville, Mo., conducting the services. Mr. Helwig was an old resident of this township, having come here thirty-eight years ago. He was born in Rice Falls, Germany May 4, 1823; came to America in 1846; was married to Miss Catharine Frank in Philadelphia April 15, 1851; moved to Iowa in 1867, settling on the farm where he resided at the time of his death. Mr. Helwig was one of those sturdy German farmers to whom we owe much for the early development of this section of the country. He was a highly respected citizen and the entire community as well as his immediate family mourn the loss of a good man.
