That was indeed a sad occasion when the friends and kinfolks assembled to witness the solemn ceremony of laying to rest all that was mortal of the fair young wife, nipped so early by fell deaths untimely frost, in the enjoyment of happiness and in the promise of a long life of joy and usefulness to those with whom she associated, her voice stilled--sad, said was that separation.

Bertha K. Smith was born in Lee county, Jan. 30, 1878 and died April 23, 1905, aged 27 years, 3 months and 23 days. She was married Sept. 30, 1903 to John R. Page who survives her.

She also leaves to mourn her early death a mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Smith of Lee County, five brothers and three sisters. One brother was laid to rest a few months ago.

She was devotedly attached to her husband and Sunday afternoon she fully realize that she could not recover and bid her husband and friends farewell, asking them to meet her in Heaven.

The funeral services were held at the Sharon church Tuesday afternoon, April 25, Rev. Steel officiating, after which remains were laid to rest in the Sharon Cemetery.
