Born in Sanbornton, N. H. August 6, 1821; died June 6, 1904 at Bonaparte--Luther C. Cheney.
Deceased was married to Betsy A. Smith in the home of his birth in 1842 and twenty years later with his family, which then consisted of four sons and one daughter, he emigrated to the then new country of Iowa, and located in the country of north of here. Some few years ago he left the farm and settled in Bonaparte, his wife having died in 1887.

Mr. Cheney has been failing since last winter but how rapidly his friends did not realize owing to his cheerful attitude. He was ever uncomplaining and even when the end was drawing near, in response to enquiry [sic] of a loving friend he stated that he was better, and so he was. The all-wise father had touched the centers and stilled the throbbing nerves. Early Monday morning he sank quietly to sleep and the end came with his slumbers.

Mr. Cheney was a man of many good qualities, and his unassuming ways won the friendship of everyone. His pleasant greeting would ring in ones ears all day long and we are sure that the heavy load of many a poor mortal was lightened by his hearty sympathy. We have known Mr. Cheney for many years and regret that the friendship has terminated, but shall go on revereing [sic] his memory.

Services were conducted at the late home, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery, on Wednesday, at 2 o'clock.
