E. H. CHASE STRICKEN

The sudden ending of the life of E. H. Chase, at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon inexpressibly shocked our community and thickened the pall of sorrow that already had saddened our people. The death was so unexpected that not until the rumor was confirmed was it given credence. Mr. Chase had been on the streets a few moments before and had greeted his friends in his usual cheery manner, and as far as we can learn, was suffering no unusual complaint.

For many months Mr. Chase has been in feeble health and only recently had he recovered from a severe illness, but the convalescence seemed encouraging and no apprehension was felt.

Saturday afternoon Mr. Chase came down town and attended to some business matters, returning home at about 4 o'clock. He greeted his wife and standing just behind her chair was imparting information concerning the sale of a pet horse, when the summons came. As he hesitated the wife glanced around to see him sinking to the floor and as quickly as she could was at his side, but death was before her and the spirit of a loving husband had gone into that silent beyond, in whose existence he firmly believed.

Neighbors quickly gathered and did all in their power to alleviate the sufferings of the bereaved family.

The funeral was held yesterday at 2 p.m. from the M. E. church, but we go to press too early for a report. Obituary next week.
