Howard Davis was born in Hoskinsville, Ohio, May 20, 1842; came to Winchester, Iowa, when young; from there he moved to Scotland county, Missouri, here he remained for several years. In course of time he came back to Iowa, locating in Mt. Sterling November, 1874. He was married to Elizabeth Stewart in Scotland county, Missouri, August 17, 1862. They were blessed with seven children, three boys and four girls, the oldest, a boy, dying in infancy. The girls are all here in Mt. Sterling, Clarence in Bonaparte, Nathaniel at Washington. All are here but Nathaniel. There were four brothers and sisters, one half-sister and one half-brother, also one step-sister. Bro. Davis united with the M. E. church when Bro. Wilson was pastor. He was a very great lover of the good and looked with contempt on the bed. He lived a sweet and lovable life in the home, would often say, "Oh, you are all so good to me"; was frequently found in communion with his Heavenly Father; was prepared to meet him. He was in the employ of the railroad company for 26 years. Died at Longmont, Colorado, Wednesday, May 24, 1905. Peace to his precious memory.
Services were held in the Mt. Sterling M. E. church conducted by the pastor, after which he was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery, there to await the general resurrection.
