Elizabeth Swift Steadman 1820-1904

Elizabeth Jane Swift was born in Indiana May 26, 1820. At an early age she moved with her parents to St. Louis, Mo., where she united in marriage with Phillips Quinn at the age of eighteen, her husband dying about two years after their marriage, leaving her with one small child, a daughter Mary.

After remaining a widow three years she united in marriage with James Steadman at St. Louis, after which they moved to Bonaparte, Iowa, in 1844 where they lived until death, her husband dying April 2, 1895. To this union were born ten children, five sons and five daughters of which only five survive, W. A. of this place; Malissa Dean of Battle Creek, Mich.; N. F. of the Anaheim, Cal.; Emma Bennett, of Tiffin, Ohio, and Miss Hattie of Bonaparte with whom she lived until death called her at 5:55 on Tuesday March 1st, 1904.

She was raised in the faith of the Latter Day Saints of which her father was an Elder. In the fifties, she with her husband, united with the Baptist church of this place and remained a member until 1882, a when she withdrew her membership and united with the Seventh Day Adventists in Sept. 1882 of which she remained a faithful member until her death.

Also 15 grand children and five great grand children are left to mourn her.

The funeral was held from the late home, March 3rd, at 2 o'clcok. Interrment [sic] in Bonaparte cemetery. Services conducted by Rev. J. L. Ayrault.
