A Sad Death
This community was saddened last Friday when the news came that Newton Arnold, son of W. H. Arnold and wife, who reside five miles west of here, had succumbed to the effects of a surgical operation performed at the home on Monday of last week for appendicitis. He was a promising young man of 21 years, had attended the Keosauqua high school, and made many friends wherever he went. He had a severe attack of appendicitis last summer, but it was thought he had fully recovered. After the operation Monday it was thought he was getting along nicely until Thursday noon when he took suddenly worse. This family has had more than its share of affliction. Four of the children have had appendicitis, two dying from it, and the father, a splendid citizen, became blind some years ago from the effect of an accident. Deep sympathy is expressed for them by all who know them. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 1 p.m., Eld. Pettit of Cantril being in charge. The high esteem in which the young man was held was indicated by the exceptionally large crowd of sympathizers who attended the funeral at the home and the burial at the Purdom cemetery here Saturday afternoon. We are promised an obituary for next week.
