Washington Davis Died at Bettendorf Friday, February 14

Funeral services for Washington E. Davis were held on Monday at ? Funeral home in Des Moines with Auburn Masonic lodge No. 592 in charge and the body was brought to Keosauqua for interment in Purdom cemetery Tuesday morning, the pall bearers being Knights of El Chanan Commandery and personal friends of the deceased.

Mr. Davis died on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Masonic sanitarium at Bettendorf, Iowa, after an illness of about seven years.

He was born in Keosauqua on Feb. 22, 1859, a son of Asa F. and Dorothy Davis, and his age was seventy years, eleven months, and twenty-two days.

He was educated in the public schools of Keosauqua and on March 12, 1885, was united in marriage with Laura J. Smith, a sister of the late George F. Smith. To them were born two daughters, Gladys, who died in 1899, and Lotta, who makes her home with her mother in Des Moines.

Mr. Davis was for some years in the grocery business in Keosauqua but discontinued that business when appointed postmaster of his hometown, in which position he was obliging, courteous and very satisfactory.

Soon after the exigencies of politics caused the appointment of a new postmaster, Mr. Davis and family moved to Highland Park, Des Moines which has since been their home.
