OBITUARY
George W. Shotten, son of Peter and Mary Shotten, was born January 1st, 1857, near Keosauqua, and died at his home near Cantril, October 28, 1928, being 71 years, 8 months and 28 days old. He was married to Jennie Hosick of Cantril, June 27, 1880. To them were born nine children, two of whom died. Mary, age 3 and Henry, age 6. He leaves to mourn his death one son and six daughters. They are Orpha Reese of Upton and Eliza Darnes of Des Moines and Jessie Darnes of Des Moines and Josie Hutchinson, Wapello, Iowa, and Wylie Shotten of Cantril and Nellie Wireman of Cantril, and ? Olson of Cantril and one brother, Henry Shotten of Cantril, and one sister, Nannie Drew of Keosauqua, besides 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Methodist church of Cantril, Rev. O. B. Rogers being in charge. The body was laid to rest in the Cantril cemetery.
