OBITUARY

The funeral of Albert Phillips took place from his late home, three and a half miles south east of Keosauqua, Tuesday afternoon July 6th; and was conducted by Rev. Chas. E. Perkins, of the Congregational Church. A choir, consisting of Mesdames H.E. Duckworth, Oscar McCrary and Messrs. William M. Walker and Oscar McCrary, sang. There was a large attendance of relations, neighbors and friends. The burial was in the Prall Cemetery.

Mr. Perkins spoke on the comforting nature of the Christian faith in immortality, and read the following biographical sketch which had been prepared by a member of the family:

Albert Phillips was born in Madison County, Ohio, June 30, 1828 and died at his home July 5?, 1909; aged 81 years and 5 days. With his parents he came to Iowa in April 1843, settling on what is now known as the Watkins farm. He was married to Clarison Bradford Dec. 10, 1855, and commenced a home at once, on the place which has been his home ever since, except for brief intervals when he was in the west.

To Mr. and Mrs. Phillips were born two sons: Oliver A., who resides on the farm, and George, who lives at Longmont, Col. Mr. Phillips is also survived by a brother, Iva Phillips of Ottumwa, and a sister, Mrs. Laura DeHart, of Keosauqua, together with eight grandchildren. The wife died August 10, 1878.

Mr. Phillips was a man of more than ordinary intelligence in many ways. He was quite a reader and having a good memory in regard to people and events, he was an interesting person to converse with.

He had a decided liking for horticulture, and was an authority on the forests suited to this country.

As a friend and neighbor, he was ever kind and accommodating and in all his dealings he was fair and just.

His sickness was lengthy and was attended by much pain; but his sufferings were borne without ?
