William Malott, son of Ephriam and Catherine Malott, was born July 1, 1891, in New Kanan, Fulton County, Tennessee, and died Saturday, January 20, 1923, in Macon, Mo., at the age of 31 years, 6 months, and 19 days.
His mother died in 1895, leaving him a small boy with four brothers and one sister. The father with the help of the sister, then about twelve years old, kept the family together until her marriage. About that time Mr. Malott lost all his household goods in the burning of his home. The children all grew up to be such a family as a father might well be proud of.
In 1911, William, with his father, came to Iowa where he was always employed until in May, 1912, he was called to serve his county in the World War. He went overseas, saw service, returned and was mustered out at Camp Dix, N.J., June 26, 1919. On returning to Iowa he worked on a farm until last fall when he went to work in a coal mine near Macon, Mo., where through the breaking of a cable he was fatally injured by coal cars. Everything was done for him that could be done but he died a few hours later.
The funeral was from the M.E. Church in Cantril, attended by Rev. W.M. Jones. He was laid to rest by the Masonic Order in the cemetery near by.
We desire to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness in our bereavement.
