William J. Channel, son Joseph Channel and wife, was born in Buford, Highland County, Ohio, August 31, 1839, and died at the home of his son P.E. Channel in Keosauqua, Io., November 12, 1921, aged 82 years, 2 months, and 12 days. He moved with his parents to Van Buren County, Iowa, when he was 12 years old and settled near Cantril, Iowa, where most of his life was spent. February 2, 1865, he and Sarah E. Whorton were united in marriage at Birmingham, Iowa. His wife was a daughter of Rev. John Wesley Whorton. He leaves to mourn his departure three sons and one daughter, namely: W.H. and L.H., of near Pittsburg, this county; P.E. of Keosauqua, and Mrs. Margaret Dale of Sacramento, Cal. One daughter Lena May Cook preceded him in death 12 years. He also leaves with us 19 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who lived in his memory. At the age of 45 he united with the Methodist Church at Cantril, under the ministry of John Wesley Whorton, and remained a member of that church the rest of his life.
