David Matlock, aged 87 years, died Sunday evening at his home near Bonaparte. He was born in Tennessee in 1811; was married in 1832 to Nancy Brown. They had eight children, six of which with the mother have died. He was again married, in 1876, to Mary Ward. Nine children one of which is dead, was the result of the last union.

The funeral services took place from Ward school-house, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1898, conducted by Rev. J. B. Eyestone, and burial occurred at the Thompson cemetery.
