ALICE JOHNSON

Alice Johnson, daughter of Joseph A. and Kate Van Cleave Johnson was born on a farm near Bonaparte, Iowa, on August 5, 1885. The family consisted of children, Hugh, Leslie, Everett, Mrs. Mike Simmons and Alice. All of this family having passed away. Alice attended Van Buren county schools and finished with honors at the University of Chicago.

This past year when shortage of teachers became so acute, she accepted a position as teacher at What Cheer, Iowa, driving back and forth (about 90 miles) over weekends, until finally on account of ill health she resigned her position and entered Graham hospital at Keokuk, Iowa, where she was treated for several weeks. She improved and came home but only lived a few days and passed away in her sleep on Sunday, May 1st, 1955.

Funeral services in charge of Reverend Richard Eis were held at the Bonaparte Methodist church at 2 p. m., Tuesday, May 2. Burial in Bonaparte cemetery.
