Mrs. Ella Cavitt, 88, a former resident of Mt. Sterling, died at 3 p. m., Dec. 15 in the Martin nursing home in Oskaloosa.

The daughter of Isaiah and Angeline Snodgrass Pettit, Mrs. Cavitt was born near Mt. Sterling on Dec. 8, 1867. She taught music in the Mt. Sterling community and for many years served as musician at the Mt. Sterling Christian church. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and was a charter member and past president of the first Missionary society of the church. On Oct. 6, 1897, she was married to Bruce Cavitt of Mt. Sterling and they farmed until his death, which took place on July 28, 1949.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Cavitt went to Oskaloosa to live at the home of Dr. Georgia Chalfont. For the past three years she had lived at the Martin nursing home.

Nine brothers and sisters died previously; only nieces and nephews survive.

Services were held at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home in Keosauqua at 2 p. m., Sunday, Dec. 18. Elder H. C. Shaw, pastor of the Christian church of Cantril, officiated. Burial was in Blackledge cemetery.
