On June 14, 1933, he was united in marriage to Nellie King Cartnal. His loyal companion survives. Also surviving are three sisters, Allie Murphy and Nora Cartnal of Farmington, Iowa; Lindy Purdy of Rutledge, Mo. and one brother, Clark Cartnal of Farmington.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, Bertie Griffith, Irma Burger and Ethel Barrows and one brother, Joseph Cartnal. Also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends to mourn his departure.
And when at last I'm called upon
To join the heavenly throng,
I'd like to feel along my way
I'd left no sign of wrong.
And yet the cares are many
And the hours of toil are few,
There is not time enough on earth
For all I'd like to do;
But having lived and having toiled
I'd like the world to find
Some little touch of beauty
That my soul had left behind.Source: Scrapbook from Unknown Owner
