WILLIAM THOMAS DICK.
OBITUARY SKETCH.

William Thomas Dick was born in Cedar Township, Van Buren county, Iowa, March 29, 1864, and has spent most of his life in this county. He was the eldest of five brothers and two sisters of whom he is the first to be taken by the death angel.

In 1877 he was graduated from the State Normal school at Cedar Falls and practiced the profession of teacher un-{til] 1899 when he was elected Superintendent of Schools of Van Buren County. The seven years previous to his election as County Superintendent were spent at Bonaparte where he was Principal of the city schools. He served two terms as Superintendent but before the expiration of his second term in 1903 he with his family went to Colorado Springs thinking the change of climate would be beneficial to his health.

He for several years had pulmonary trouble and the change of climate only served to put the end a little further way, death coming Friday, July 29, 1904.

The remains were brought to Bonaparte and taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. Margaret Dick, in Lee county near Big Mound. Funeral services were held from this home on Tuesday, being conducted by Rev. C. F. Perkins of Keosauqua assisted by Rev. Hankins.

In 1892 he was married to Miss Anna M. Beard of Bonaparte and to this union were born three children, Gladys M., Wilma J., and George S. The last named died in infancy.

When in College at Cedar Falls he united with the Presbyterian church, of which denomination he was a member until his removal to Keosauqua when he placed his letter in the Congregational church there.

While at work here in the schools for so many years Mr. Dick by his earnest and persevering efforts as an educator made many friends who now extend their sympathy to the sorrowing wife and children.
