KEOSAUQUA — Iola M. Bales, 87, of Keosauqua passed away at 6:45 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at Van Buren county Hospital, Keosauqua. She was born Sept. 20, 1920, south of Cantril to Roy and Effie Daniels Kirkhart. She married Charles E. Bales April 4, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Monmouth, Ill. He preceded her in death.Iola had lived in Ottumwa and Seymour and moved to the Keosauqua area in the spring of 1991. She graduated from Cantril High School in 1939, worked at Sheaffer Pen Co., Ft. Madison during World War II and later at Square D in Cedar Rapids, J.C. Penney’s in Ottumwa and owned and operated a beauty shop in Ottumwa. She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two great-nephews, Neil and Phillip Kirkhart of Cantril, three cousins, Joe Kirkhart and wife, Betty of Cantril, Vance Powell of Bethesda, Md. and Esther Adams of Wichita, Kan., other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jesse Kirkhart and wife Zola and a nephew, Ronald Kirkhart and his wife, Sharon along with other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with family present 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Van Buren County Hospital may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 29879 Fir Ave., Cantril, Iowa 52542.
