Mrs. John Evans
Mrs. John Evans of Keosauqua died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at her home. She had been ill for several months and had been home two weeks from the University hospital in Iowa City where she had been a patient for six weeks.
She was born Aug. 13, 1882 near Keosauqua, the daughter of Charlie and Jessie McGaffey. She was first married to Benjamin Cook who died 25 years ago. Her second husband, John Evans, survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Capt. John B. Cook of Camp Hood, Texas, Pvt David C. Cook of Alaska and Dan Cook of Milton; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Cole of Mt. Sterling and Mrs. Will Poling of Keosauqua; 35 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Roy Ramsey of Keosauqua, and two brothers, Stanley and Craig McGaffey of California.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Burnett funeral home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Homer Dalrynaple (the name of the minister is very difficult to read) officiating. Burial in Pittsburg cemetery.
