KEOSAUQUA — Edgar Paul Carruthers, 92, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Fla.He was born June 30, 1915 at Mount Sterling, Iowa to Leo Alexander and Flora Estella Else Carruthers. He married Ruth Mayro Roberts May 11, 1940 in Kirksville, Mo. She died Oct. 20, 1993.He graduated from Keosauqua High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a heavy equipment operator.
He had lived in Keosauqua, Memphis, Tenn. and Cedar Rapids and retired to Florida in 1981. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Fort Myers, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Mason.
Surviving are a son, Ted Carruthers (Jane) of Finchville, Ky.; a daughter, Pam Strickland (Joe) of Fort Myers; and two grandsons, Jason Strickland and Chris Carruthers.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Keith, Fred, Willard and Russell Carruthers; and three sisters, Pearl Carr, Eva Oswalt and Vera Carruthers in infancy.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril.
Memorials to Grace Bible Church, Fort Myers, Finchville Baptist Church, Finchville, Ky. or Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Fla. may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 54 Chenault Drive, Finchville, Ky.
