Luman A. Brooks, whose sickness proved fatal, passed away Tuesday morning at an early hour. His grandson, Duane Cass and his faithful comrades, who have supplied every need, being with him at the close of a well spent life. He was a member of Shriver Post at Vernon, under whose auspices his funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Thursday p.m., Rev. H. C. Druce of Bonaparte officiating. Interment was in the Bentonsport cemetery. He was one of the early settlers of Bentonsport, and was married and in the little village of Oakland lived, and reared a large family, a happy and contented, a respected, honorable citizen. After a lapse of years the children went from the home nest to positions and homes of their own. The mother and children first located at Ottumwa. The father not wishing to leave the old home remained here to the end. The children surviving are Miss Carlotta Brooks, who lives with her mother in St. Louis, Mrs. Maggie Sedwick of Powell, Wyoming, Mrs. Bessi Wells of Ottumwa, Mrs. H. C. Pennington of Chicago, and Verna of Woodward, Ohio. Several of his comrades from Bonaparte attended the funeral.

[date not given but position in scrapbook would suggest Dec. 1909]
