His wife died at the old home May 3, 1867. One brother, Alonzo Sargeant of Vernon and Mrs. Rocinda Neal of Fort Madison, Iowa, are all now left of eight brothers and sisters.

Father Sargeant was a man of strong and fixed moral principles, and an unyielding believer in right and justice, and while he never affiliated with any religious denomination, he was a believer in a future life and lover of the Bible and its teachings, and always did what he could to help his fellow-men, extending his open generous hand at all times, and offering assistance and sympathy, while his home was ever open to those in sickness or distress. Such was the life of Luther Sargeant whom we now mourn, and when in life all that knew him loved and respected him. The affliction that finally snapped the life cord of Mr. Sargeant, made its first appearances about two years ago.

Funeral from the late home, Feb. 28, at 2 o'clock p. m. with interrment [sic] in Vernon cemetery, services being conducted by Rev. F. L. Ayrault.
