William E. Scheyli was born October 2, 1861, at Keokuk Iowa, and departed this life, September 21, 1934, at the Ottumwa hospital, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 19 days. He was the son of William and Mary A. Scheyli.
He spent the early part of his life near Bonaparte, but for the past 12 years has lived in this community.
He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Williamson on November 10, 1887. To this union were born three children, Maggie E., and John W., who preceded their father in death and one surviving daughter, Mrs. Carrie E. Hargrove, of Cantril Iowa.
He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1885, at Farmington Iowa, and moved his membership to the Grace M.E. church of Milton in 1892, where he has always been a faithful and loyal worker, holding various official positions and being a member of the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Aurora Lodge No, 50 A.F. and A.M. of Milton Iowa and of the Carr Chapter of the Eastern Star.
He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife and daughter, one brother, Joe Scheyli and sister, Ollie Scheyli, six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, Sunday afternoon, September 23, 1934, by his pastor, the Rev. W.B. Ireland.
The singers were Mrs. Ruth Sherwood, Mrs. Hazel Brady, Rev. J.C. Caughlan and Frank Holland with Mrs. Beryl Gilchrist at the piano.
The Burnett Funeral Directors were in charge of burial at Sunnyside cemetery. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
