Mr. Barnett Bonar died at his home, three miles north of Milton, Friday October 29, 1915. Mr. Bonar had been ailing for some time but not until within the past two weeks, was his condition considered serious. He was a man highly respected for his sterling worth and will be greatly missed by neighbors and friends, as well as in the home circle, the members of which have the sincere sympathy of all.
Barnett Bonar was born in Richland County, Ohio, December 8, 1846 and died at his home October 29, 1915, aged 68 years 10 months and 21 days. He came to Van Buren County Iowa with his parents in the fall of 1864. On December 1, 1881 he was united in marriage to Annie E. Peacock. To this union were born Nellie E., Paul E., Mathew S., Clark P., Hazen B. and Esther I. also two grandchildren Mabel and Monte Hoskins all of whom with his loving wife survive. He also leaves to mourn two brothers; Wm. of California, Scott of Bloomfield and three sisters; Mrs. T.M. Dunshee of Chariton Iowa, Mrs. R.P. Bell and Mrs. J.W. Burchett of Milton and many other relatives and friends.
He was converted when quite young, and was united with the Presbyterian church at Troy, but later moved his membership to Lebanon Iowa, having been brought up from childhood to attend the house of the Lord. He could say with the Psalmist "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord."
"We miss thee from our home dear father, We miss thee from thy place, A shadow o'er our life is cast, We miss the sunshine of thy face, We miss thy kind and willing hands, Thy fond and earnest care, Our home is dark without thee, We miss thee everywhere."
Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. McMichan, pastor of Troy and Lebanon Presbyterian churches. Interment took place at Oak Point Cemetery. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
