Joe Price Madden, son of Roy E. and Cleo Madden, was born in Milton, August 14, 1909 and departed from this life November 9, 1932 at the age of 23 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He confessed the Christ and united with the Cantril Church of Christ under the ministry of Elder Hoff.
On August 30, 1928 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Tade of Milton. To this union one daughter Roberta Jean was born.
Joe spent the greater part of his life in and near Cantril. For the past five years he has been in the barber business in Cantril. He was a friend to everyone, always ready with a friendly greeting and cheerful word. He was a loving son, a devoted husband and father. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved ones.
Those left to mourn his departure are his wife and infant daughter; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Madden; one brother Jackie; his grandmother Mrs. Effie Price and many other relatives and a host of friends,
Funeral services were held at the Cantril Church of Christ Friday, November 11, at 2 p.m., Elder H.C. Shaw officiated with Rev. H. F. Gilbert and Rev. Rogers of Keota Iowa assisting.
The singers were C.P. Thompson, Miss Irene Rogers, Miss Edna Beaty and John Van Fleet, with Mrs. Rogers at the piano. Miss Irene Rogers sang "Sunrise Tomorrow" as a solo.
Pallbearers were S.H. Daugherity, Raymond Smith, H.D. Smith, Frank Anderson, Floyd Marsh and Merril Marsh. The Home Builders class of the Church of Christ Sunday School to which Mr. and Mrs. Madden belonged attended in a body.
The burial was in the new addition of Maple Grove cemetery. Wellborns were funeral directors, assisted by Vance Short.
