John Allen Holmes - Born in WV. April 18, 1849 and moved with parents to Van Buren Co. when he was one year old, locating in Harrisburg Twp. Married September 10, 1879 to Miss Olive Holmes and they lived near Mt. Ayr. Two children: Glen , who died August 25, 1899 and Grace , now Mrs. Lloyd E. Cornell of NY City. The mother died in 1890. On June 1, 1897 Mr. Holmes married Miss Mary E. Brown. For a time they resided in Keosauqua and later to his mother's farm near Bonaparte. Last summer moved to Pacific coast for his health, but returned later where he died December 12, 1909, age 60 years, 8 months, 6 days. Besides his wife, daughter and granddaughter, he leaves 3 brothers and 1 sister. F-Vale Cemetery, Bonaparte.
