Archibald McDonald - Born at Ft. Madison December 1, 1844 and died at Bonaparte December 6, 1909, age 65 years, 5 days. Was oldest son of Charles & Martha McDonald. Four years later went to farm in Harrisburg Twp., Van Buren Co. After teaching several terms went to CA. Returned to Van Buren Co. In Baraboo, WI he married November 10, 1874 Mary L. Rehkopt of Bentonsport. One daughter, Mrs. Madeline Dunn of Kansas City, MO. Wife died September 26, 1876 at Bentonsport. He then married Miss Cora L. Brown of Bentonsport on February _, 1882. Three children were born: Brown Archbald; Gertrude Alston and Martha E. who died in infancy. In 1877 he went to TX and next year to CO where he taught. In 1881 he succeeded Wm. J. Johnson in the firm of Christy & Johnson. He had 6 sisters and 3 brothers. His father died July 8, 1876 and mother November 19, 1899. Surviving are his widow, one son, Brown A. two daughters, Mrs. Madeline Dunn and Mrs. Gertrude Tade and 2 grandsons; 2 sisters, Miss Mattie McDonald and Mrs. Charles E. Rau of Mason City, IA. Two brothers, Charles W. of Council Bluffs, IA and Robert E. of Harrisburg Twp., Van Buren Co. Also mentioned were Mr. & Mrs. Charles Rau of Mason City, IA; Mrs. Hattie Greef and Arthur Greef of Fairfield and Wm. Sinton, Keokuk. F-Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte.
