OBITUARY SKETCH.

Anne Rex was born September 25, 1823, in Green county, Pennsylvania, near the town of Jefferson. When nine years of age she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Rex, to Jefferson county, Ohio, near Rich***** [cannot read] March 31, 1847, she married Jacob G. Vale, who was then Principal of schools at Smithfield, which position he held for eight years.

Mr. and Mrs. Vale moved to Lee county, Iowa, in 1850, and located near Primrose where they lived until 1856 when they moved to Van Buren county and settled on the land now known as the Vale homestead which has since been her home.

Jacob G. Vale was State Senator in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth General Assembly and also at the special session for the revision of the Code in 1873. He was also a candidate for Governor in 1873 on the Anti Monopoly ticket. He died February 17, 1875, at the age of fifty-three years.

Mr. and Mrs. Vale were the parents of six children, three of whom died in infancy. The three now living were present at the death and funeral of their mother and are, Mrs. Lydia Leffler of Cedar township, Mrs. Martha M. Downie of Beaver Falls, Penn., and B. R. Vale of Bonaparte.

She died Sunday morning, January 17, 1904, of apoplexy and the funeral services were held Tuesday at the Harrisburg Baptist church, Rev. Bancroft officiating. The attendance was large and was representative of the large circle of her friendship.
