VERY SUDDEN DEATH.
ELZY CHANEY.

Between eleven and twelve o'clock on Friday, January 15, while sitting in his chair at his home at Pierceville, Iowa, Elzy Chaney, an aged resident of Van Buren county passed away. His death was the result of heart failure. He was sixty-four years of age.

Funeral services were held Sunday, conducted by Rev. Erskine and the body was interred in the Dibble cemetery.

Elzy Chaney was born in Harrison county, Ohio, May 25, 1841, and suddenly departed this life at his home in Piercevill, Iowa, Jan. 15, 1904, aged 62 years, 7 months and 20 days. In 1844 he with his parents moved to Lee Co., Iowa, where they resided about eight years, then removed to Van Buren Co., Iowa, which has since been his home. He was the youngest of a family of ten children, all of whom except two have taken their departure from this world. Alfred of Sperry, Mo., and William H. who resides in Montana still survive him.

In 1862 he enlisted in the 19th Iowa Infantry, Co. I, and was also promoted to corporal. He served until the close of the war with honor to himself and to his country.

Being of a happy, jovial disposition he was always a favorite with his comrades. On January 16, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Cornelia Lowe, who with their foster son, Rufus Roy, remains to mourn their loss.

He was a tender and loving husband, a kind and indulgent father. He will be missed by a large circle of relatives and friends for whom he always had a kind word and pleasant greeting.

He united with the M. E. church at Utica, Iowa, in the summer of 1895 and has been a faithful and consistent member since seeking daily strength and comfort from his Bible, striving each day to live as his master would have him, and by do doing was ready when the summons came to hear the master. "say well done thou good and faithful servant - enter thou into the joy of the Lord."
