WILLIAM J. SULLIVAN

William J. Sullivan, son of John and Sally Sullivan, was born Nov. 5, 1837, in Athens county, Ohio, and died May 8, 1926, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Z. D. Hoops, aged 88 years, 6 months and 3 days. He was united in marriage to Katherine Kellyer Sept. 6, 1866, and to this union were born eight children. His wife and six children preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hoops of Keosauqua and Mrs. C. D. Camblin of Minneapolis. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one gerat [sic] grandchild and a host of relatives and friends. He united with the M. E. church in early life and lived a true Christian life these many years. He was a civil war veteran, belonging to the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, company G., having enlisted at the beginning of the war. At its close he was mustered out and settled in Van Buren county where he has since spent the rest of his life.

Funeral services were conducted at the home May 16th, at 2 o'clock p.m. by the pastor, Rev. J. [can't read-G?] Austin, and conducted by the G.A.R., who [rendered?] a beautiful [can't read] to the departed comrade. Interment in [Val]entine cemetery.

We desire to thank the friends and neighbors for their [can't read] sympathy during the sickness and death of our father.
