MARY ANNA KING

Mrs. Mary Anna King, a highly respected resident of West Point, passed away at her home Wednesday, August 2, 1911, at 9:15 p.m., aged 67 years 9 months and 16 days.

Mary Anna Bliley was of German descent and was born in Baden, Germany October 14, 1843. When four years of age she came to America with her parents who located in Cincinnati, Ohio. After living in that city for a few years the family came west and lived some years in Quincy, Ill, later moving to Ottumwa. August 22, 1863, she was united in marriage to Martin King in Ottumwa. After her marriage she moved with her husband to a farm near Bonaparte, where she lived until December, 1910, when she and her family moved to West Point.

Mrs. King was the mother of ten children. Six sons and two daughters survive her, Michael A. King of Des Moines, Albert M. King of West Point, Thomas F. King and Edward L. King of Fonda, and John H. and Daniel A. King of West Point; Mrs. Elizabeth Alderdice of Wichita, Kansas, and Miss Regina King of West Point. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Her husband died fourteen years ago; also one son and one daughter preceded their mother to the grave.

Mrs. King was a good Christian woman and was a consistent and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church. She was a resident of West Point just eight months, but in the short time she mingled among the people of this place she made many warm friends who sincerely regret her demise. In her old home community, near Bonaparte, as well as here, she was admired for her goodness of heart. Among all she ranked always as a woman of culture, refinement and sympathy, a kind neighbor, a devoted mother and a true friend.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Saturday morning at 8:45. The last sad rites were conducted by Rev. Father Jacoby, who also delivered an eulogie [sic] address on the good qualities and Christian character of the deceased. The Rosary sodality, of which she was a member, paid her tribute by attending the services in a body. The remains were taken to the Catholic cemetery at St. Paul where they were interred in the family burial lot beside those of her husband and children, Rev. J. A. Rangger [sic] officiated at the grave.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Thomas and Edward King of Fonda, Mrs. Elizabeth Alderdice of Wichita, Kansas, Miss Maggie King and Carl Weber and wife of Keokuk, Mrs. E. B. Cresap of Fort Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meek, Patrick O'Connor and sister Miss Maggie, Peter Herstein and family and Mrs. Robert McClain, all of Bonaparte.
