MARTIN HARNAGEL CALLED HENCE
----------------
THE PHYSICAL SUFFERING OF A GOOD MAN ENDED BY DEATH.
----------------
Martin Harnagel, cashier of the First National Bank, died Wednesday morning, October 13, 1920, at about 2:30 o'clock after a protracted illness.

"Martin Harnagel is dead."

These were the words of greeting from nearly everyone we met Wednesday morning, and the words were uttered in a tone of unusual sadness.

Martin Harnagel was one of God's noblemen. The loss to the world in his passing is great, and the loss to this community is irreparable.

Mr. Harnagel was unassuming in his daily walk, a man of the strictest integrity, honest and upright in all his dealings, a man with a warm heart and tender sympathies for those in distress, but withal firm and just in his business transactions. He, like all worthwhile men, had enemies, but his friends out numbered his enemies by legion. Mr. Harnagel had been connected, in an official capacity, with the First National Bank of Farmington for a number of years, and was known to every business man and farmer in this section, and his word when given in a business transaction was looked upon as absolutely correct.

For a long time he battled with an incurable disease, which finally carried him off. He suffered uncomplainingly, and so stocial [sic] was he that few knew of his physical sufferings until the disease had made such inroads upon his constitution that he was compelled to abandon his labors. He made a heroic fight against the disease, and was hopeful till death came as a blessing to end his terrible physical sufferings.

He is survived by his devoted wife, two sons, Willard and George Edward and two daughter [sic], Pauline and Madelyn; five brothers Albert of Farmington; George and Ed. of Des Moines; Fred of Selden, Kansas; and Samuel of Henderson, California; and two sisters, Mrs. Harve Sheffer of Donnellson; and Miss Madelyn Harnagel of Cleveland, Ohio.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, burial in St. Paul cemetery Donnellson.
