GEORGE HENRY THOMAS

George Henry Thomas was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, Sept. 20, 1876. His death occurred on Monday morning, Dec. 31, 1906. His age was 30 years, 3 months and 11 days. On Nov. 24, 1898, he was married to Altia Ellis, at Centerville, Iowa, which was her home. There are two children, who, with the wife, surive him. Alice, the elder child, is 7 years old, and Clifford, the younger, is 4. Both were born near Centerville. Mr. Thomas was taken sick a year ago last August. In the hope of benefit to his health, he spent last winter in Phoenix, Arizona. For two months he seemed to be better, gaining some in weight. After that, however, he began to decline, and when the faithful wife started for Iowa with him, he was so weak he could not walk across the room. He was brought the entire journey on a bed. The family came to Keosauqua in June, and here the last, hard struggling months dragged slowly on, until the morning of the last day of the year, when the end of earth came. Mr. Thomas was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Thomas of this place. His mother died July 11, 1893. His father, four brothers and a sister remain to mourn his departure. All that love's devotion could do for his recovery was done. Undoubtedly the skill of his physicians and the tireless ministrations of his wife and relatives prolonged his life and lessened his suffering. But only God had power to cure him, and God has taken him to Heaven to make him well. In the strong care of the loving Father of us all, we must leave him now, waiting the morning when, our own last long journey taken, we shall clasp hands with him again, in the blessed country where no partings are.
