ENOCH BLACKLEDGE

Enoch Blackledge was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, on the 23rd day of March, 1833, and died in New Windsor, Ill., on the 30th day of January, 1909, aged 75 years, 10 months and 7 days.

With his parents he moved to Mt. Sterling, Iowa, where the greater part of his life was spent. He moved to New Windsor, Ill., in 1902 where until his death he made his home with his only son, H. H. Blackledge. Soon after settling in Iowa his father died. After this his constant thought was the care of his mother, and he could not be persuaded to leave her, he remaining with and caring for her until her death. He was married to Elizabeth Catherine Wilson Dec. 3, 1871. To this union were born three children, two dying in infancy, one, the son H. H. Blackledge, with the wife is left to mourn his departure into the unseen world beyond the shadow of time. Mr. Blackledge became obedient to Christ during the winter of 1907 under the ministry of Rev. Henry Brink. Though he never united with any church, those who knew him best and loved him most testify that he was faithful to his Saviour and that when the summons came so suddenly it was "well with his soul." His death brings sorrow to a devoted wife and loving son, whose constant desire was to smooth the rough places of his declining years and make the way pleasant for his footsteps.

Funeral services were held at the home of the son in New Windsor, conducted by Rev. Geo. W. Schroeder. The remains were brought to Mt. Sterling where short services were held and interment was made in the Blackledge cemetery.
