OBITUARY
Charles Gabelman was born in Davis County, Iowa, December 15, 1875, and died at his farm home in Davis County February 16, 1912, aged 36 years, 2 months and 1 day.
He was a son of Mr. And Mrs. Alexander Gabelman of Davis County, and grew to manhood in the vicinity of his birth. He attended the public rural school and the Normal college at Bloomfield, fitting himself for public school teaching and taught eight terms in the rural schools of Davis county.
He was married to Miss Elma McMillen at the home of the brides parents in Davis County May 13, 1900. They made their home on their farm southwest of Bloomfield where they remained except a part of one year which they spent on the Pacific coast and a year and a half in Bloomfield while he was in the grocery business. Two children were born to them, both of whom are deceased.
As a school teacher he was successful and appreciated. As a farmer and merchant he had ability for thrifty management and as a man he was regarded as honest and well meaning. In the nobler impulses of his life he sought to be a Christian, dating his start about fourteen years ago when Rev. E. J. Shook was holding a revival meeting at Harmony church, and united with the Methodist church at Milton and later transferred his membership to Bloomfield.
He had his temptations, soul struggles and life's difficulties, but he tried to let God help him through it all. He hungered for true friendship and appreciated them as he learned them to be true friends.
Two of his brothers, Bennie and George are deceased. His brothers and sister are Fred, of Kansas City, Mo.; Paul, of St. Louis, Mo.; Neri, of Davis Co.; Mrs. Jeff Stoner, of Davis Co.; and Mrs. John Countryman, of Selma. He is also survived by his wife. The bereaved have the deepest sympathy of the community.
The funeral services were held at the Mt. Moriah church about three miles from his home, Sunday February 18 at three o'clock, by Rev. J. E. Newsom, his pastor, Bloomfield, assisted by Rev. W. H. Stack of West Grove. Interment was made in the Mt. Moriah cemetery, adjoining the church.
